The Medes Islands
These islands are one of the most important reserves of sea flora and fauna in the Mediterranean and are one of the most prized destinations in the scuba diving world.
They lie just one mile away from L’Estartit beach and cover 23 hectares on land and 511 by water. This archipelago is part of Montgrí Natural Park, the Medes Islands and Baix Ter, and has seven smaller islands: el Medallot, la Meda Gran, la Meda Petita, les Ferrenelles, el Tascó gros, el Tascó petit and Carall Bernat.
A protected natural area since 1990, it preserves the rich sea floor, water and land environment, with large populations of seaweed, seagrass meadows, corals, and many species of fish, crabs, and starfish.
Various companies organise glass bottom boat tours around the islands. All organised water and underwater activities comply with the regulations that have made the preservation of this natural area possible.
